I like what Miles Davis is reported to have said: "There are no mistakes." The implication is that the path we're on features episodes that look like mistakes, but whose consequences are likely in aid of our evolution. It reminds me of a Zen story...but I'll save that for another day. Thanks for joining the coversation, Robin...

Is not just about fiction - can be real life as well. I found it here, trying to make a farm - and failing, failing every year. Hitting a wall and finally sliding down it. And lo - the plants just sprang up without me. It seems there was no real failing. I just needed to be banged on the head with it.
Trying to have much more fun listening to the bees buzz these days!

Ellen...and check out ET's latest Present Moment Reminder:

"Instead of creating expectations of what should or should not be happening, cooperate with the form that this moment takes. Bring a 'yes' to the isness, because it's pointless to argue if it already is. A greater intelligence is available to you when you no longer reject, deny, or 'don't want' what is."

Isn't that what happens to the determined protagonist when they''ve run out of options, yet hold their ground -- their 'greater intelligence' becomes available to them. Methinks ET is stalking me again.

Odd how he keeps cropping up isn't it! I like the quote about wanting what you're getting in this very moment. Don thinks that's how the Tibetan Buddhist monks go from serious teachings one moment to hilarity the next - because they're totally present, not dragging the past or future baggage with them.

Thanks, Sarah... tell your son to write a book on his experiences and his insights. I can't imagine anything more important than meaningful communication with young people.

My son, a junior high teacher, talked at lunch today about the need to be constantly evolving in his profession. He thinks that teachers who complain about kids today and their lack of this or that ability, have not changed their teaching methods. This has nothing to do with dumbing down the content, but all about what you talk about here.
